Blog #1

Hi Class!
Let's see...how does technology make a difference in learning?? Although I am not familiar with specific programs in the education system, I think technology in general opens up the world to students. For example, my sister is 12 years old. When she was barely in third grade, she had to do a "mission project." The project consists of building an actual mission with an accompanying report....I'm sure you've all heard of it. I had to do this same project when I was in third grade. The difference between my project and hers is technology. I had to go to the library and take notes on the San Diego Mission de Acala (I think that was the name). All she had to do was Google her mission and all the information and pictures were are her finger tips. The whole world of information is just a 'Google' search away for children now. This is just one example of how I have seen how technology has influenced learning.

Actually...I have learned quite a bit this week. I learned how to create my own blog for one! That is something I have never done before. I have also re-familiarized myself with WebCt. Things have changed a bit in the 2 years that I have been out of school. Something simple I learned: when naming a file, you do not want to use more than 8 characters and absolutely no spaces! This is important when sending information between Mac and PCs, of course. I am also familiarizing myself with Macs...although, I must say I prefer PCs. I have learned quite a bit about the etiquette of a business letter. Specifically, I have learned a lot more about format with regard to a business letter. For example, all the information that goes into the headers, and the proper spacing, etc.
